To wrap, fold, drape, swaddle, or carry within cloth are acts of protection, care, and meaning. For thousands of years, people across Asia have created and used textiles to shield the body, safeguard treasured possessions, mark identity and status, and mediate relationships between the human and non-human worlds. Beyond their practical functions, textiles embody connections to place, community, belief, and memory.

More than beautiful objects, these textiles are records of human experience. They carry memories of migration, belief, labor, ceremony, and everyday life. Across centuries and geographies, they reveal shared human desires, to protect, to remember, to belong, and to care for one another. We hope this exhibition inspires a deeper appreciation for Asia’s rich textile traditions, the countless anonymous makers who created them, and the enduring power of craft to connect us across time, place, realm and imagination.
